"Essential Super-Villain Team-Up"

WORTH CONSUMING!

70’s Marvel has a black cloud of cheese and goofiness. But SVTU was really, really good! I loved it. Great plots, excellent art, and great characters. My respect for Doom has grown, and I’ve always been partial to Namor!

The only negative aspect is that I don’t consider the Sub-Mariner a Super Villain. He’s more an anti-hero. Only the Red Skull and Hate Monger’s team up is the real thing. I know it’s all semantics here- so I won’t criticize or penalize this book.

Worth Consuming a big ol’ group of 5 stars.

"Essential Fantastic Four, Vol. 3 (Marvel Essentials) (v. 3)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is the least known era in FF history to me. Despite the fact that I once (briefly) owned an original copy of FF 52, the first appearance of the Black Panther.

I used to hate the Inhumans, and I was afraid that Kirby would have just gone off the deep end with his hoodoo/ new age art, but Stan Lee seems to have kept him grounded and the Inhumans are actually kinda interesting. I can’t wait for further volumes.

"The Marvel Vault: A Museum-in-a-Book with Rare Collectibles from the World of Marvel"

WORTH CONSUMING!
A great overview history of Marvel- from its beginning as Timely, to Atlas, to Marvel and beyond. And yes, it even sheds light on how Joe Q. became editor in chief (and it made me hate him a little less).

Comes with really cool “artifacts”. The best are the “No-Prize” book and the Marvel Trading cards. Star Wars has come out with something similar to this (and one day want to own). But the ultimate vault book would be DC Comics’. Hint, hint, publishers!!!

"Bone, Vol. 3: Eyes of the Storm"

WORTH CONSUMING!

This series is really growing on me. It’s a great mass of humor, fantasy, horror, and mystery (some of which is revealed in this volume). I can’t wait to find volume 4!

"Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness"

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I love Marvel Comics. I love Bruce Campbell and the whole Sam Raimi Zombie thing. However, this book is not Peanut Butter and Chocolate.

I hated this book. It’s too bleak and sad. At least with other zombie flicks there is a glimmer of hope. Here, there is none. Plus, many of the things done, especially acts by Reed Richards is sooooooo not in character it’s frightening.

This volume makes me not want to read the original Marvel Zombies or any other Zombie book by Marvel in the future.

"what the?! (regular series) Issue #26"

WORTH CONSUMING!

The End is here and What The..?! says good-bye to many of its best recurring characters, Milk & Cookies, Spider-Ham (though it’s Spider-Ham 2099), and Forbush.

Only Wolverina is missing. Worse, a story linking all previous mentioned characters never regrouped.

Forbush was a great take on the “Death of Superman”.

"what the?!(regular series) Issue #25"

WORTH CONSUMING!

The end of this series draws near, but before its swan song, What The..?! regales us with an all-mutant parody book. Released to coincide with the 30th anniversary of X-Men, there are some great tribute stories, a very good parodies and a way too long 2 part X-Force- Cable- who knows story that is lame, lame, lame.

Still the good out weights the bad, so it’s worth consuming.

"what the?! (regular series) Issue #24"

This was a funny issue, but the whole Infinity War thing was parodied a few issues back- with Spider-Ham, Forbush, Wolverina, and Milk and Cookies, and it was much better. It was just too soon to do another parody of the same story arc. It’s like What If… doing “What if Thanos killed Death?” and then 4 issues later doing “What if Thanos killed Death, but Death was only ‘Mostly Dead?’ ” Just too old to be fresh.

"Y: The Last Man, Vol. 9: Motherland"

WORTH CONSUMING!

More secrets are being revealed, but there are twists galore! And what’s more, there actually looks like there is hope for the human race. And just as you start to think Y can’t go any farther- the series begins to focus on different aspects (like season 3 of Lost focusing on the Others). It’s just plain brilliant stuff.
