"Star Trek #27 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

One of the best concept issues of all-time. This involves a day in the life of the Enterprise. Everything’s routine until a red alert and thing things get really interesting.

It’s also one of the best “Chekov” storylines I’ve ever run across.

Great cover too!

"Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America"

WORTH CONSUMING!

Waited a loooonngggg time to read this book- but it’s highly worth the wait. Jeph Loeb is one of the greatest writers of all time- and not just in comicdom. Heck- this is the genius behind LOST.

The miniseries is comprised of 5 issues, each dealing with one of the stages of grief. The best are “Depression”, dealing with Spidey’s reaction to the death of Capt. America. And ’Anger", which has a ton of comical moments during a poker game between Ben Grimm and the New Avengers.

"Star Trek #26 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"

WORTH CONSUMING!
This issue is another Spock and the Surek tale. But compared to the previous one- this one is much better.

It involves the Romulans, a bicycle and the irony that the black first officer is racist towards a half human/ half vulcan captain.

"Star Trek #25 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

The most menacing species in the entire galaxy is a race of Kittens. Mind you, these kittens have phasers- but I would rather face them that to come home in the dark to my 3 guys having forrgotten to leave a light on.

This 2-part story is the best in the series!

I love it. Worth consuming for any Trek, humor, or comics fan!

"Star Trek #24 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

The funniest Trek story since “A Trouble with Tribbles”. This story is perfect and extremely well crafted!

I loved every minute of it.

The cliffhanger occurs in the next issue, so I am happy!

"DC Comics Universe Holiday Bash! (issue #1)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

Several great stories done in the real fashion of comics- the DC Fashion. No stereotypes, no gratuitous use of stars on the cover only to be graced with a pin-up. Sure, Bats’ story is only 2 pages, but gosh darn it; at least it’s a story!

I love DC better than Marvel, and this issue, albeit a very short issue compare to most deluxe books, is very much worth consuming!

"Manga Claus"

WORTH CONSUMING!

This Marunas kid stole my idea. In 1994, I came up with Kung Fu Santa, and I’ve been developing parodies ever since.

Did this guy know someone I went to school with? How did he get my idea.

Good book- appropriate for ages 9 and up. Nice use of limited color. Worth consuming, but gosh darn it, it’s my idea- so only 4 stars, the 5th goes to me!!!

"Marvel Holiday Special (Giant One Shot 1994)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

Some very good stories and amazing art. However, buyers beware!!! This issue lists a ton of stars on its cover. But many of them appear in Pin-Up form (i.e. She-Hulk and Wyatt Wingfoot).

So to be fair, I take away one star, but it is still worth consuming!

"Justice League Unlimited Issue 28"

WORTH CONSUMING!

A cross between “Jingle All The Way”, “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Scrooged”. Wonderful- and it lacks any of the sterotypes of Comic Book Holiday issues (See Justice League Unlimited #16)

Sadly, this issue is wayyyyy to short and goes to fast- blame Flash.

Very much worth consuming- A Holiday Classic.

"Justice League Unlimited Issue 16"

WORTH CONSUMING!

Great tale- Sheira is back in her Hawkgirl costume, and we get to learn a little more about Atom Smasher. For one, he’s Jewish, but does every holiday super hero “special” have to have both a token Jewish person and/or a token alien who hasn’t an understanding of what Christmas means, but happens to celebrate a festival from their home world that conveniently happens the same time as Christmas???

And for the question about the Jewish character, it’s not a racist thing- but I do notice an absence of those who celebrate Kwanzaa! Is this a deliberate oversight?

Sadly, this issue is too small, and Firestorm (a personal fav) is used too sparingly. Still, with 4 stars, it’s worth consuming!

The Analects (Penguin Classics)

WORTH CONSUMING!

Finally- Eastern Philosophy. I had gotten sooooo tired of Western Philosophy; I thought I was in a gladiator movie. Okay, bad joke.

But why choose Confucius? I’m going to show my age here, but I choose him mostly due to the means of why I am most familiar with him. Remember Funky Winkerbean? Sure, it’s still runs today, but remember when Funky was funny and actually starred Funky? Well I do, and in fact, I remember how Funky would read the works of Confucius. They were very insightful and wise- only they were twisted at the end with a joke. So, I thought, okay- it’s safer to try than something I had no idea about.

Well, it freaked my wife out. While in this joyous holiday season, I got depressed. So my wife was afraid I was searching for a new religion. Safely to say, she had nothing to worry about.
