"Sign of the Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Library of Congress Century Bestseller Series)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

It took me a few days to get back into this book. I ended up getting sick and I just didn’t feel like reading small print. It was very easy to get back in this book and not be too lost.

I really am starting to enjoy these tales of Holmes, Watson, and Co. I still think some of his assumptions that come true are a stretch, but it’s still worth reading!

 I highly recommend!

"The Walking Dead, Vol. 2: Miles Behind Us"

WORTH CONSUMING!

When I try to get to sleep and it just won’t come, I like to imagine that I’m snowbound and with the fan or sound machine on, I’m listening to a blizzard. I also like to imagine I’m on the ice planet, Hoth, from Empire Strikes Back.

This volume of Zombie destruction plays on those safe thoughts of being snowbound and turns it on its ear. It’s a little unsettling. Kinda brings the Donner Party to mind.

Despite any of those fears, this series is growing on me. Compared to other Pro-Indy titles like Y: The Last Man or Ex Machina, it’s still got some work to do. But, I must know what happens next.

Star Trek #54 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

For those of you who don’t know- Finnegan was a minor character used in the classic episode, “Shore Leave”. Now, in that story, he was a figment of Kirk’s imagination taken from his memories of Starfleet Academy. However, now with the trial of Bearclaw approaching, Finn is shown for real this time. Now he’s a judge advocate. But he’s still as immature as Kirk remembers and then some.

Is Bearclaw innocent? Is Kirk still in Jeopardy? Will Finniegan stop using joy buzzers long enough to make a difference? The issue is a great mystery and worth consuming!

"The Walking Dead, Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye"

WORTH CONSUMING!

This gritty, dark tale about zombie invasion is something different from today’s horror tales. This draws heavily from Romero’s Dead series in as this is more about survival and people and less about the gore.

Some of the plot devices were transparent and cliché. And you can tell pretty quick who’ll be worm food. The only question is when.

Not the best offering out there in comicdom, but a fairly good enough offering to compel me to give it a another try or two.

"Star Trek #53 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

Kirk’s been murdered! Bearclaw is to blame. Now, Chekov must find the murderer before it’s too late.

The best “detective” story since Star Trek VI, with the murder of Chancellor Gorkon. I know that this event is a paradox, since this issue came out before the movie by about 5 years. However, I had seen the movie first and then read this, so technically, I am correct in my statement.

"Star Trek #52 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

Kirk, Spock and others travel through the lower levels of Hell (a’la Dante’s Inferno) in order to combat the threat to his ship and crew.

The art is disturbing and yet stunning at the same time. Very similar to the Sandman series.

The ending is a big surprise! I must know what happens!

"Traveling Light: Releasing the Burdens You Were Never Intended to Bear"

WORTH CONSUMING!

My wife keeps saying when I get to the arts and crafts and the cooking, that I need to do some of the activities written in the book to get the full experience of what the Dewey Decimal System has to offer. At this point of my Dewey project, I came upon a chance to read a Christian Devotional book.

What a perfect example to put to practice what my wife challenges me about.

"Star Trek #51 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"

WORTH CONSUMING!

Issue 51 begins a story arc in which the Enterprise is changed into a literal interpretation of Dante’s Inferno, thanks to the fevered nightmares of an alien crew member. The art is chilling and thankfully Spock is here to be our guide through this vault of horrors. Because honestly, when it came time to read the Divine Comedy in college, I think I was asleep. I haven’t a clue about which level of hell does a robber dwell.

"Star Trek #50 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"

The Klingon/ Federation conflict comes to a conclusion that can only be described as too much in too little of space. I get hit with events from all angles and I often lost track of who does what. The issues brightest spot is the addition of Bernie to stay on permanently.
