Really, this is a book by Alex Ross- Dini as stated in the about the author section was a collaboration. Ross’ art is stunning and real. It’s a great visual treat for the holidays.

Again, this is an Alex Ross work with Dini as collaborator. Great retelling of all your favorite DC origins. Worth owning.

Superman: the Man of Steel, Volume 3

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This volume of stories follows Superman’s life after the Great Crisis, in which Supergirl and Barry Allen died. I can’t figure stuff out. This book covers 3 different titles of Superman tales (which have no continuity) and are not published in sequence but alphabetically and by month. So I’m jumping from Superman being in the Mid-East to fighting mobsters, then back to the Mid-East.

It’s very confusing. Also, no one except 3 people in the DC Universe are supposed to know of the great crisis even happening, yet in this story, everyone knows about it.

Fun to read, hard to understand- can’t recommend-sorry!!!

Jimmy Olsen: Adventures by Jack Kirby - Volume 1

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

In 1970, Jack Kirby left Marvel and went to work for the enemy, DC Comics. Kirby’s first title at DC: Jimmy Olsen??

Yes, it’s true. Kirby used Olsen to introduce his new characters of Darkseid, Apokolips, and the New Gods, as a spoiler for his new titles due out in early ’71.

Kirby hated to work on established titles and it shows. The plots are loose, the continuity off base, well, you just have to wonder what Kirby was smoking. His collages are enough to make one trip out and puke with the drugs.

His revival of the Newsboy legion is okay, except for the addition of what has got to be one of the most annoying names and characters in all comics “Flippa Dippa”. Why must he always speak in first person?

And a special guest appearance of Don Rickles??

However, little did Kirby know, but his creation of the “Project” and the DN Aliens, helped pave the way for the classic “Death of Superman” story in the early ’90s and help usher in the modern day Superboy.

One of the best series I have read. Amazing storytelling and very original. This is worth owning in your comic collection. A+++++

"The Bad Beginning (A Series of Unfortunate Events #1)"

I got hooked watching to movie, which BTW has a terrible Jim Carrey performance, but the kids and the ensemble is great.

I know this is not a comic, but I like it and I wanted to share.

Not for ages under 10, in my opinion, but it is not a den of evil like many believe, rather witty and a lot like Terry Pratchett in a way.
