Scooby-Doo Team-Up #17

Officials at the Midway City History Museum call upon the Mystery Gang. It appears that there's been a break-in and curators Carter Hall and his wife Shiera are on vacation. Security footage seems to imply that a ghost of some sorts is involved. To assist with the case, Midway's protectors Hawkman and Hawkgirl are on the scene to provide back-up, which appears to be much needed as the spooks are revealed to be some of Hawkman's most deadliest enemies: Shadow Thief, The Hideaway Man, and the Matter Master.

I liked that Hawkman and wife were chosen for this issue's team-up. It tells me that the creative duo of Sholly Fisch and Dario Brizuela aren't satisfied to just utilize commercial draws like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman for every issue. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but most team-ups series seem to work best when the include lesser known characters as well as the members of the A-list.

One thing that doesn't work is the selection of villains. I give props for the use of lesser known baddies. But aren't the Shadow Thief, The Hideaway Man, and the Matter Master enemies of the Earth-2 Hawkman? If somebody can shed some light on what I think is a huge oversight, I'd much appreciate it. I'm not huge on modern Hawkman, so maybe I'm wrong.

Speaking of Hawkman- yes, he's got a massive stick up his rump- so why use him in a funny comic book? Well, it's his overly anal personality that got the most chuckles out of me reading
this book. He's like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory- he doesn't understand sarcasm.

A great issue that shouldn't work on paper and yet it does in so many ways!

     Worth Consuming

Rating: 9 out of 10 stars.
