The Klingons respond to the
“attacks” on their colonies- gearing up for an all-out battle royal conclusion
in the next issue. Konom makes peace with Bryce and Bernie. And Bearclaw begins
to get in more hot water with Kirk. I don’t care what anyone says, the new crew
members are what makes this series a success.
A book is like the TARDIS. Open it up and it's bigger on the inside. One part reading journal, one part educational tool for pop culture newbies and parents of young geeks. This blog is your portal into the world of movies, TV, superheroes, and of course books!

"Marvel Adventures: the Avengers Volume 6 "
WORTH CONSUMING!
Well, the ever growing roster of
Avengers keeps growing in this volume. However, based on how Marvel works to prevent
the roster from losing its chemistry- they present a wonderful closing tale
involving current and new members working together. The chemistry works, with
Spidey being the wise-guy and Capt. America providing the soul leadership.
Thankfully, the story ends with the newbies
getting place on an inactive roster and the Super 7 remaining together. I hope
this trend continues.

"Marvel Adventures: The Avengers Volume 5 Some Assembling Required Digest (Marvel Adventures)"
I really enjoy the Marvel Adventures
series. I know they are more geared for younger readers. But, like a Disney movie,
it also has something to offer for the adults. This series, while not canon,
culls from the vast 50 years of Marvel Comics lore to create some fantastic
stories featuring classic Avengers such as Hercules, Hawkeye, and many others,
which appear fresh for kids and a welcome friend for us “old fogies”
However, I must complain as to why
Marvel feels that the need to add to the cast of MA: Avengers. The lineup of Giant
Girl, Wolverine, Storm, Spider-man, Capt. America, Iron Man, and The Hulk is
the best line-up I’ve ever had the privilege to read about. Their powerful,
witty, and have great chemistry. Now, I am afraid with these new members,
that’s going to change. Only time will tell if this series thrives or fails.
Until then, it’s worth consuming!

"Star Trek #48 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"
WORTH CONSUMING!
If ever faced with a bachelor party
thrown by the senior crew of the Enterprise, it’s a good bet to stick with
water. As Scotty, And McCoy, And Chekov spike all spike the same punch bowl-
you know there’s bound to be trouble and classic moments.
The bachelorette party crashes,
Bearclaw puts his career where his mouth is, and Konom must face the possibility
of his and Bryce’s children will face the same bigotry as Bernie, the half
human Klingon hybrid that was rescued in the previous issue.

"Star Trek #47 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"
WORTH CONSUMING!
The romance between Konom and Bryce
heats up with a wedding date in sight. But before anything else can happen, the
Enterprise must investigate an attack on a Klingon outpost. An attack that
looks like a Federation ship was involved!!!
We also are introduced to Bernie-
the Klingon/ human hybrid with a heart of gold. He’s an awesome addition to the
Enterprise family.

"Star Trek #46 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"
WORTH CONSUMING!
This lighthearted tale is a breath
of fresh air compared to the previous storyline that was borderline tedious.
In this issue, the entire crew goes
on shore leave and hi-jinx ensues. McCoy breaks his leg while skiing and gets
the Tough Love treatment that he uses on his patients thrown back at him. Love
is in the air for Sulu and Bearclaw. And Kirk is harassed by a observer who’s
out to ruin the Captain’s career.
Worth Consuming.

"x-23: Innocence Lost"
Move over Syndey Barstow- there’s a
new big, bad mama super spy on the beat and her name is X-23. I had seen
glimpses of X-23 for a while in issues of Wizard and Marvel.com. When I finally
got a hold of a TPB (of her origin no less)- I leaped at the chance to find out
just who this character was. She’s got claws and was involved in Weapon-X. So
was she Logan’s daughter? A Clone? Someone who just happened to have
Wolverine’s exact powers?
You’ll have to read to find out those answers
like I did. But, don’t feel so bad if the action just gets to you and you have
to take a sneak peak at the end! In order to not have your heart skip a beat- I
suggest you do peak!
I’d love there to be a sequel.
Worth Consuming!

A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
WORTH CONSUMING!
I really thought I was going to hate
this book. In fact, I was a little intimidated by the sheer brilliance of this Victorian
classic. Plus, the Holodeck episodes in which Data portrays Holmes on Star
Trek: The Next Generation are among my least favorite.
But, I read recently a book in which a
character was enjoying Sherlock Holmes and I decided to give it a try- again. I
had read a kids version of Hound of the Baskervilles when I was 10-13 and had
mixed reviews.
But, this time I fell in love with the whole
package. I can see David Tenant in my eye as Holmes and I like the fact that
you’re not required to solve the case against Holmes. I got a little confused
when mid-way through the book goes 20 years or more back in time to Mormon
settlement in Utah. However, once I realized that this was how to book was
supposed to flow, I really got into the mystery and realized Doyle is a bloody
genius.

"Star Trek #45 (DC Comics 1986-1989, 1st Series)"
NOT WORTH CONSUMING
Now Spock is fused to a computer and
must destroy the Enterprise, least he doom a planet??? It’s gone from bad to
worse and I thought it was only the natives who were revolting.
The only saving grace to this issue
is that the Apple sequel storyline thankfully comes to a close and will never
reopen!
