Power Man and Iron Fist #73
In the opening half of a two-part crossover, the Heroes for Hire are tasked to investigate the murder of a woman whom ROM the Spaceknight identifies as a Dire Wraith hiding as a human.
Akira's Jo Duffy pens an exciting first act that features cameos from a bunch of Marvel characters including the Fantastic Four. I don't own this issue. I was fortunate to have a buddy who had a PDF of this issue. I do have the companion issue, ROM #23.
I have the entire run of ROM. I am looking forward getting to read it one day. But I have a feeling that with the number of crossovers in this series, a lot of the story is going to be missing in the regular series of the characters ROM encounters. Plus, since Marvel doesn't own the rights to ROM anymore, I have a feeling that some sort of complete omnibus of ROM stories from the House of Ideas will never happen.
Featuring an amazing cover by Frank Miller. Greg LaRocque (Moon Knight) does the interiors. He does a great job, but it would have been epic to have the Daredevil artist doing the artwork of the entire story and not just that psychedelic cover!
Lots of fun done in the mighty Marvel way of the 80s. Some of EIC Jim Shooter's best!

Deadpool, Volume 4: Temporary Insanitation
A not-so-scrupulous accountant has crossed too many players of Manhattan's underbelly. Seeking protection and sanctuary, the money-man (and his laptop full of incriminating evidence) goes straight to the top for help- DEADPOOL! But these crooks aren't willing to blink and they've brought in a heavy hitter to take in the turncoat accountant- Typhoid Mary!! Enter the wildest team-up and the first (and probably only) single issue multi-issue crossover in comics history.
Guest-starring Daredevil, Power-Man, Iron Fist and most of the sanitation crew at Fresh Kills landfill!
Then things get supernatural when a horde of inter-dimensional beings invades Deadpool's wife Shiklah's subterranean kingdom. This Last Days of Magic tie-in will shock long-time Deadpool fans and looks to change the game for the Merc With A Mouth for some time to come.
The first storyline was classic Deadpool! It's crazy funny and a shining moment in a era of Marvel that's been sub-par at best. But why does Gerry Duggan, along with writers Charles Soule and David Walker insist on making Wade Wilson such a tragic character!? He's much better when he's funny and surreal than a homicidal version of Charlie Brown. That's why I buy the book- fun and games not going down in flames...

Power Man and Iron Fist: Sweet Christmas Annual #1
![]() |
| Variant Cover |
Both series have been huge hits and in response, Marvel Comics put out this holiday special starring Power Man and his partner, Iron Fist (who'll be getting his own Netflix series sometime in 2017.)
It's Christmas Eve and everyone in New York wants the latest toy, a Pokemon knock-off called a Schnuckie. Iron Fist, Power Man, and his daughter are in line at a toy store in hopes of snagging one of the hot toys before the place closes at midnight. But when the clock strikes 12, the duo learn that there's a sinister plot behind the year's hottest toy.
Featuring guest appearances by Spider-Woman Jessica Drew, the Son of Satan, and maybe even a certain jolly old fat man, this was a very fun holiday special. Marvel has undergone quite a few changes in the past 3-5 years, some good and some bad. Often the company has been criticized for turning it's back on it's established fan base. But Sweet Christmas was in my opinion a very good mix of humor, action, and holiday cheer that I think is directed at fans both young and old.
There's one slight bit of controversy with this book; but it has nothing to do with content. The problem is how to catalogue this comic. It's touted as the Power Man and Iron Fist: Sweet Christmas Annual #1. However, some comic book sites that fans use to manage their comics stash list this book as an annual to the current Power Man and Iron Man series run. So, if you buy this book and can't find it under Sweet Christmas, check it out under the Power Man heading.
