Justice League America #82

It looks like Guy Gardner has finally snapped! Once the escaped prisoners revel themselves to be total scumbags, Guy decides to vaporize one of them. Crap, I just let the cat out of the bag! Sorry, but then again the cover shows this happening too, so I guess I can be a little forgiven.

A really great story that for once shows the League as A) not the good guys and B) not always right! This is a must read issue and if there was a course on Understanding Comic Book Super Heroes, this would have to be required reading.

Worth Consuming.

Justice League America #81

Once again the Ray is given a chance to shine as he’s the most powerful member able to take on Captain Atom. Lots of great action and amazing art. The plot is pretty good as Wonder Woman refuses to hand over a pair of escaped intergalactic prisoners because she has a feeling they may not be all bad.

For once, her gut may be in the wrong…

Justice League America #79

In the conclusion to the storyline joining the Golden Age Flash with the JLA, Dreamslayer offers Bloodwynd a spot on the New Extremists roster. The mysterious hero recants, but you can expect that the matter isn’t settled between the pair just yet.

A really enjoyed this two-art tale. It’s got lots of great action and has a really good plot. True, it gets a little preachy about the horrors of war, but so did M*A*S*H* and I love that show.

Justice League America #78

With Fire still powerless, Blue Beetle not 100% after his fight with Doomsday, and Booster’s suit still not perfected, Max calls in for a little backup. The result is legendary speedster, the golden age Flash being called up to the ranks of activated reservists.

With the Flash, the League is sent to a foreign country to end an embargo of supplies being shipped by the U.N. In the midst of freeing this nation from a dictator, the League meets up with a old enemy sporting several new faces- an all-new Extremists, led by Dreamslayer.

A quality book that asks some hard hitting questions about heroes and their responsibility as a global police force. Also, really great banter between hero and villain and awesome artwork.

Justice League America #77

The Ray has managed to free Bloodwynd and the Atom from the evil presence that has been binding Bloodwynd and Martian Manhunter to the power gem. But, the work of the heroes outside the gem has weakened the mystical barriers and it looks like final conflict in going to be fought in our reality.

A fantastic conclusion to the Bloodwynd saga that offers a small glimpse into his origin and really gives some of the lesser known heroes, like Ray, a chance to really shine.

Justice League America #76

In the last issue, we found out who Bloodwynd really was. Now it’s up to the League to save him from his plight. But, it won’t be easy because to do so, one must be able to alter their genetic code into laser form in order to breach Bloodwynd’s power gem. Lucky, the Ray has the very ability needed to get the job done.

Much is made of the Ray being a really powerful guy with near off the chart powers- think of Johnny Storm with electricity instead of fire. Now, the little guy’s finally got a chance to make a difference and I love it.

The art and writing are superior as usual and the plot continues the previous storyline but offers a refreshing new take that keeps things from getting stale.

Justice League International #64

Don’t know who Lionheart is? Don’t worry, neither do I. But in the light of the global crisis created by this mysterious cult, the Justice Leagues are stretched out thin on resources and are calling in everybody with a super power to help with the catastrophes plaguing planet Earth.

When some of the member’s head to the Himalayas to help with disaster relief, Maya, Power Girl, Metamorpho, and this Lionheart guy are faced with an even bigger threat- there’s not just one child whose been trained to become the next incarnation of Shiva- the Hindu god of destruction!

Not the best issue by far. For one thing, the writing of the characters is so very out of place. I’m okay with Metamorpho being on edge fearful with his new “acid” touch as it will seriously hurt someone. But, this Lionheart guy is supposed to be very regal and chivalrous as described by other characters. Yet, he’s a bigger windbag than Guy Gardner- and 50 times less likable.

Better try next time.
