Essentially, an all-humor issue.
However, I didn’t get Ambush Bug. It was very surreal, and hyper. I also did
not like it. The Rex story was a great parody of Capt. America, and I like
Stanley and his Monster. There was a 4th story, but I do not remember it, so it
must not have been that great.
A book is like the TARDIS. Open it up and it's bigger on the inside. One part reading journal, one part educational tool for pop culture newbies and parents of young geeks. This blog is your portal into the world of movies, TV, superheroes, and of course books!

"Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #43"
NOT WORTH CONSUMING
Truly lame- I’ve never really liked
Hawk and Dove and this story didn’t help with that. The whole dragon in love
thing being the reason to create Hawk and Dove does not “explain everything”
like the story says- just the opposite- it makes it worse.
Cave Carlson was like reading a joke
that only those on the inside got.
The Chris-KL99 story was really
cool. I really would like to read that series.
Still, this issue is not worth
consuming!

Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #41
WORTH CONSUMING!
WARNING!!!! Despite his presence on
the cover, the Scarlet Speedster does not appear in this book. But an extra
Special Super Secret Villain does. A Great Homage to the Rogue Gallery of one
of the best loved super heroes of all-time.
A true Worth Consuming if there ever
will be. This is by far my 2nd favorite issue in this series.
Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #40
WORTH CONSUMING!
An all-Ape issue??? It’s not as bad
as it seems. And no- it’s not all Schlock! Grodd story was good, but not enough
Grodd in it- true, it’s more about Gorilla City, but Grodd’s on the cover – so
it’s what I want. Congorilla origin is really good, though the real thinning of
the plot comes about when you think of future storylines. The Detective Chimp
Story was pretty good- it is Schlock- but I expected that.
The real prize is the cover. To
fully appreciate it, YOU MUST read the History behind this on the Letters Page.

"Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #33"
WORTH CONSUMING!
It’s hard to put it. Mister Miracle
was such a letdown. Not at all what I thought his origin would be like. The
others were good, but they’re such “forgettable” entities, I hardly remember
their names, much less their origins. Proof Positive that JL Europe was a
mediocre title (I’d later recant this statement). Still, for some reason, I
give this a worth consuming and I cannot figure out why??!!!?

Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #32
WORTH CONSUMING!
Thought I would hate a JLA origin
without Wonder Woman, but I was very wrong. This version of Black Canary was
very likeable. However, I hate that Cape Hatteras, NC was changed to Florida
for one of the pods lancing spots. Can’t NC get known for something other than
Rednecks??? Other than that, worth consuming!

"Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #24"
WORTH CONSUMING!
It took a while, but finally another
issue where both stories rock! The Dr. Fate story is very good- only a bit on
the confusing side. But that is not the author or artists fault. I tend to get
confused on comic series featuring wizards and occults etc. Haven’t you ever
wondered why everyone has very similar names? If you don’t know what I mean-
refer to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
The Blue Devil story is the best. It
brings back Cain (or is it Abel???) from the House of Mystery titles of DC and
the tale is told in a very funny way.
I hope to add Blue Devil to my wish
list of titles to own real soon.
Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #23
WORTH CONSUMING!
The Guardians story is just awful!!
Lousy writing- terrible plotting- a true headache brought on by the Crisis. What
does make this issue a worth consumer is the Floronic Man story (as told by
Killer Croc). Starts off slow but has a Usual Suspects type ending that makes
this an unforgettable tale. (Plus it really makes one want to read the millennium
series and more Batman tales starring Croc). Also- to my surprise Floronic Man
is a villain! I had no idea until I read this.

Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #21
I would have liked to have seen more
done on Jonah Hex and not the researcher trying to uncover a conspiracy to
steal the gunslingers corpse. And the Black Condor is roughly a poor man’s
Tarzan although the best part of the story are the birds that raise BC up. They
are very vivid warm characters and make the story better. It’s okay- but worth
consuming if you want the entire series- like me!

Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #14
I never thought I would ever see a story with Amanda Waller it in and I don’t finish the story not wanting to kill her. Being with this Suicide Squad must have burned her pretty bad. The story is good, but there’s way too much history and not enough time to tell it. And that is sad- given that the entire issue is devoted to this one group of “heroes”. It does tie in with the World War II comics quite nicely- especially with JEB Stuart and the Haunted tank. Great cameo of President Reagan. They never say it’s him, but it is- although this Reagan is nowhere near as old as he’s been portrayed in History Books. And that may or may not be a good thing.

"Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #12"
The Challengers story is the rest to
read this issue alone. Great characters, great art. A real page turner,
although the origin behind the newest member to join the crew is left out, even
though she plays a huge role in the story that takes place as the Origin of the
original 4 Challengers is revealed.
The Fury story is okay. It’s another
attempt to rectify the confusion brought on by the Crisis; only this time the
Wonder Woman character is remade as Fury, a Greek Heroine who fought during
WWII. Good story, I just didn’t like the Roy Thomas explanation as to why she
exists. Also, this makes two issues in a row in which the All-Star Squadron and
Infinity Inc. titles are tied in. The lack of quality convinces me not to read
these titles, if it moves me at all.
Still, the Challengers or the
Unknown make this story worth consuming!

Secret Origins (3rd Series, 1986-90) Issue #7
This issue focuses on the Green Lantern’s of earth, primarily Guy Gardner and the origin of the Golden age Sandman.
Both are classics. Again, Sandman is a figure who never had an origin until now, and thanks to Roy Thomas.
For those of you who might have enjoyed issue 5, The Crimson Avenger, you must check out this issue as he is a main character and much of his origin is expounded on here.
Worth Consuming.
