Supergirl continues to investigate just who really is behind all of the attacks on her and her friends. Along with her adopted sister Alex Danvers, Kara ventures down to the Fort Rozz crash site looking for clues. There, the sisters are attacked by Kryptonian security-bots, supposedly left over from the crash landing. But when Supergirl finds a hidden chamber filled with images of her time on earth, her suspicions are confirmed: The Girl of Steel is being watched!
I actually read this issue twice. I wasn't so happy with it and I felt that that just couldn't be right. The past 3 issues had been winners and I refused to believe that this chapter was a stinker. Thankfully, a quick re-read helped tune me in to some clues that I had been overlooking or I saw them and just couldn't make a connection at first glance. This ended up being a very good issue though I'm really getting impatient for the climatic ending of this storyline.
The cover by Cat Staggs was another home run. The interior artwork by Carmen Carnero (Swamp Thing) was very good as well. Though Supergirl still doesn't look like her TV counterpart yet, there does seem to be a little more favoring of Melissa Benoist in some panels. But the renderings of the security robots were spot on from the series and the action scenes with the mystery antagonist really jumps off the page.
Speaking of things jumping, I don't want to give away a major spoiler but there was a scene that actually scared the bejeezus outta me. You know in those horror flicks where someone looks out a dark window and it's empty and then they do something and then BAM!- there's the villian looking out the window scarying the crap out of both the character on screen and the aduience? Well, this book has the sequential art version of such a frightening scene. Again I don't want to give away the scare but when it happens, oh, my God, will it freak you out!

Following her battle with Vril Dox, Supergirl is thrust into a nightmarish world of zombified loved ones, alien hybrids, and werewolf hordes.
This issue was an interesting mix of alternate versions of the Girl of Steel without delving into the concept of the multiverse. I'm sure we'll see that play out next season during the planned Supergirl/Arrow/Flash/Legends Of Tomorrow crossover event. But gee, there's a lot of Supergirl variants that I didn't realize are out there.
Once again, DC has brought me running back to my LCS to get another chapter of the Supergirl TV tie-in! That's 3 first run issue purchases in a row. I'm hooked and this is a great way to wait out the summer hiatus. And though this was not the best issue of the series thus far, it was an enjoyable read. The mystery of who's behind these attacks on Supergirl is compelling and I will be snatching up the next segment on the day when it hits shelves in a couple of weeks in hopes of finding that answer.
My only problem with this series is something I have mentioned previously- the rendering of Supergirl. Cover artist Cat Staggs kills it with stunning photo-realistic drawings of actress Melissa Benoist. So if DC will allow that, then why can't they make the images of Supergirl in the story look like the actress as well? Everyone else in this series looks like their live action counterparts! So why does Kara Zor-El Danvers look like she would in a non-TV tie-in DC comic book?
DC has made comic book adaptations of both the Flash and Arrow TV shows. Though I haven't read those yet, I doubt that the lead characters weren't sketched to look like Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin! So get with it DC- make Supergirl look super!

In this issue, Kara Danvers' co-worker and BFF Winn is arrested at Catco for doxxing; the illicit release of personal data. Once arrested, more incriminating charges are leveled against Winn, including a terrorist bombing in Virginia. Smelling a rat, Supergirl takes matters into her own hands and springs her friend from police custody.
Now fugitives, Supergirl and Winn seek the help of a fellow hacker to find out who's framing Winn. Their search uncovers yet another rogue alien named Vril Dox, whose also a living computer. It's Dox's intent of bringing the earth to its knees by taking over the internet. It looks like and open-and-shut case with Supergirl pulling the plug on the alien once the Winn's hacker friend can trace the source of Dox's feed. But with Jimmy Olsen held cyber-hostage by Dox, Supergirl's mission has now become a matter of life and death!
Issue #2 was just as good as the premier issue of this series and it's been a great filler for this Supergirl fan whose been in major withdrawal of the great freshman series. There're lots of really cool easter eggs dropped throughout this issue, such as Winn's internet call sign is 'Supergirl_in_Action252', a play on the first ever appearance of the Girl of Steel in Action Comics #252. But I've seen from social media that a few fans aren't so happy about the choice of the baddie in this issue.
Vril Dox is also known as Brainiac. But depending on what reboot of the DC Universe, Vril has either been a hero or as more recently, a villain. Fans of the show were hoping Brainiac was going to appear next season on Supergirl. But with his appearance in this issue, they feel disappointed that it's not going to come to pass. Honestly, I thought the villains Lex Luthor and Brainiac were considered off-limits to the TV shows because of the upcoming Justice League films. So I haven't been expecting Brainy to show up ever on a future episode...
Two issues and twice I've been very pleased. So much, that I am ready to include it to my wish list. Not only that, but I am also ready to commit to buying it NEW off the shelf monthly! That's saying something because I almost always never pay full price for anything!

It's been a strange week for Supergirl. First, it's announced that CBS is canceling the show. Then it's not cancelled- but only if changes to the show format is made. Then DC announces the publication of this book which dropped Wednesday. Since the show's fate was up in the air, I figured it would be extremely important to support this series in order to seen DC and CBS that I want Supergirl to be renewed I even went on social media and started a hashtag called #Savesupergirl!
Well, imagine my surprise on Thursday that it was announced that the CW will pick up Supergirl for a second season. I honestly thought it would take a little while for an agreement to be made and that this comic would be the measuring stick for a second season. Well, DC and CBS kept their end of the deal and I kept mine.
Based on the hit CBS series, issue #1 of the Adventures of Supergirl has the Girl of Steel assisting the DEO in capturing yet another alien escapee from Fort Rozz. Only, this takedown takes a more personal note as Kara discovers that her adoptive human sister, Alex Danvers killed the alien's sister years prior. When the alien, known as Rampage, discovers that Supergirl and Danvers are sisters, she takes Kara hostage seeking revenge. With Alex and the DEO on the hunt, can Supergirl mend fences before another sister's life is unfortunately lost?
I don't know if DC knows how much of a big deal is it for me to buy a book new. Money is an option to me and so to maintain my collection, it's bargain bin city all the way. But Supergirl grew on me and I was so pumped for a second season. It took a little while to gain steam and by the cliffhanger of season one, I was hooked!
The storyline was like reading a missing adventure from season one. Writer Sterling Gates captured the voice of Supergirl actress, Melissa Benoist, quite well here as she's the narrator as like on the show. The overall formula was just like the show too! Cover art by Cat Staggs was freakin' awesome and I hope her photorealistic touch will continue on here.
The only thing I wasn't such a fan of was some of the interior art. Artist Bengal (Batgirl: Endgame) does a reasonable job on the renderings of Alex Danvers and DEO head Hank Henshaw. But Supergirl looks, well like Supergirl- just not this Supergirl. Let me explain, the Supergirl portrayed in this comic has pixie-like looks and platinum blonde hair just like the comic book version. Other that the costume, Bengal's Supergirl looks nothing like actress Benoist. I'm sorry but that oversight has got to be fixed. It's inexcusable.
Despite my misgivings with Bengal's rendering of Supergirl, I enjoyed this comic. I liked it so much, I will make a commitment to at least buy the next issue over the rack too! That's how much I love the character, adore the show, and appreciate the efforts of DC/CBS/and the CW to give us a season 2!
