In the first of a two-part story involving Wonder Woman, the
Amazonian Princess makes her first ‘official’ appearance in the DCU when the
woman she’s staying with is taken hostage by a gang of bad girls wearing futuristic
battle armor. Believing that since the villains are women so they’ll relate to
her, Diana tries to resolve the stand-off without violence but that all comes
to a head when rogue female cop storms the building guns blazing.
This is really a Hawk & Dove story without Hawk or Dove
starring it in. Plus, this just isn’t the Wonder Woman I remember as a kid. She’s
like a Greek hippie or something. I wasn’t so much a fan of this one.
Also, while I applaud the use of William Messner-Loebs as
the writer of this 2-parter, the other big name that I am use to is nowhere to
be found. That person is George Perez. Okay, so he’s not writing this, but
Perez wasn’t used for the art nor did he pencil the covers. Maybe Perez was
unavailable but it’s just not the same without him.
Rating: 5 out of 10 stars.
