Doctor Who #2 (Marvel 1984-86)

In this issue, we discover that the innocent looking ball of fluff called a “meep” is actually a blood thirsty killer. So it’s now up to a newly formed team of the Doctor and those insect creatures that planet a bomb in his tummy to bring the little monster down before he destroys the solar system.

Also, we begin the first two chapters of a tale that deals with my favorite Who monsters, the Cybermen. When one of their ranks begins to question his mission to kill humanity, we will discover that there’s actually a soul underneath all that silver armor?

I really enjoyed this issue. There’s one splash page that shows really being ripped asunder by the meep with a small shadow shot of the Doctor in pain. It looked just like the classically corny special effects of the original BBC production. I loved it. But I must ask, if reality was torn apart as the meep left the earth, how did it get fixed??? But the comic glances over this problem, so what happened? That’s what happens when you don’t plan your plots out better and run out of pages.

Most of the pin-ups in this issue are really good. But the 3rd Doctor on the back cover looks nothing like himself. The movie “Doctor Who”, Peter Cushing portrait was like looking at a photograph though.

Worth Consuming, but watch the plot pacing a little better.

Rating 8 out of 10 stars.

Wibbly Wobbly, Timey Wimey Scale: 10 out of 10.
