If you think Krampus is the only demon that lurks during the festive season- think again!
Mike Wolfer pens three scares based on terrifying Christmas characters from across the globe in this holiday horror for mature readers.
  • A pair of orphans learn first hand of the Yule Cat. Known as the Jolakotturinn, this feline is literally the cat from hell!
  • Then an American couple on a Winter holiday abroad run across a scarecrow based on the legend of the doomed Hans Trapp. But are the legends of an evil sinner who dresses as a ragamuffin and eats poor little children true?
  • Finally, a man will learn how important it is to keep a tidy home on a snowy eve least he incur the wrath of Frau Perchta!
I loved the first two stories. They had great twist endings! Fans of EC Comics will love them! Plus, they've got some very shocking artwork that adds to the creepiness factor. Both Carola Borelli and Vincenzo Carratu illustrate those openings wintertime terrors that will haunt your dreams.

I thought that the last story about Frau Perchta was a little more predictable. I had figured out pretty quickly how the story was going to end though a couple of other plot points were a little confusing to me. That could have been because that story was written as a poem.  Maybe the syntax was off? However, Mike Wolfer's illustrated panels are filled with a level of gore that reminded me a bit of George Romero's Creepshow.

Fear seems to be the theme of the 2019 holiday season. A number of movies, TV specials and comics based on the holidays are set in the horror genre this year. Maybe it has something to do with the state of things in our country. Or maybe Krampus and his friends are finally getting their just due! But one thing is for sure, American Mythology introduces readers to a trinity of scares that are new and fresh to the American comic book market. And it's all thanks to one little idea from issue letterer Natalie Jane!

Let's hope for some return visits from the merry monsters of the world during next year's yuletide! And keep rocking on some awesome specials based on Jane's ideas, American Mythology! This comic promises frights and festive fun!
