It should be no surprise
that the Zoo Crew tangle with a parody of Conan the Barbarian. Though Conan was
at the time a Marvel property, Capt. Carrot creator Roy Thomas was not. Plus,
Thomas is the one who brought Conan to comicdom and was the main writer of that
series for a number of years.
The book is pretty good
and I love how this Bow-Zar has trouble adjusting to 1982, like thinking a man
riding in a car was actually swallowed by a giant metal lizard. The thing that
was oddest to me was Bow-Zar’s coloring. His main is brown but his body fur is
pink. I kept thinking he was skinned or something. But, if you look closely,
there is indeed “fur” draw on his torso. A little creepy looking, that’s all.
A very funny issue that is
worth consuming
