Celebrating 50
years of Spider-man in just 48 pages is hard enough. Yet the team of artists
and writers behind this annual pulled it out in dashing style. When a test at
Peter Parker’s scientist job ends up wiping him out of existence, the web-slinger
gets a chance to see what like would be like if he was never born. That’s right
folks, this is It’s a Wonderful Life, Spider-man!
But, what keeps
these from being some cheesy knock-off is that Pete’s uncle Ben is still alive
and even though Ben hasn’t a clue whose this geeky guy claiming to be his
nephew is, he’s still convinced enough to trust the young man and help him out.
However, the Avengers have been alerted to Peter’s presence in this alternate
timeline and it’s causing reality to phase in and out from Peter’s true NYC and
this strange new world.
A dollar box gem
if there ever was one. I thought this annual was supposed to have introduced a
new sidekick to Spider-man and I thought I read that in a news article last
year when this came out. Maybe that was for another 50th Anniversary
special? It doesn’t matter, the book was awesome and I wouldn’t trade it for
that other book any day!
Worth Consuming.
